Novak was a superb two-sport standout. The 6′ 5″ Novak starred on two city recreation league teams that have been honored by the GFASHOF, White Seal Beer (basketball) and Eastside Merchants (baseball). His St. Mary High basketball teams were 51-7, highlighted by the 1939 State Class C championship. Novak played minor league baseball in the Tigers and Giants’ organization.
