Secrest set three world records while becoming an international champion. He won the 1987 Race Across America after having placed second in the event twice and third once. Set a world record in the Motor Pace race by covering 1,216.81 miles in 24 hours in 1990 and also set world marks in a seven-day cross country race in 1986 and in an indoor race in 1985 at the Velodrome in Montreal.
