Roberson was an all-state basketball and baseball player at Northern High. He led Flint Junior College’s basketball team to a 23-1 record in 1955. He was a pitcher in the Brooklyn Dodgers farm system. Roberson was a two-time national seniors doubles champions in paddleball.
