Murphy, who died in 1984, donated countless hours to Flint Golden Gloves program, examining boxers before their bouts. He was one of the founders of the Flint Boxing Commission. Murphy also gave his time to the Grand Blanc High and Flint St. Mary High athletic programs. He was known as a man who was never too busy to help.
