A result of his intense interest in Flint area youth, Manley inspired C.S. Mott to finance a pilot program in sports and recreation. As a result, the Mott Foundation was created and the community school philosophy adopted. The combination of Manley’s enthusiasm and Mott’s support provided a base of opportunity for all children and adults, a format copied nationwide.
