Leslie was a professional boxer in the featherweight division. He fought for the world championship against Willie Pep at Atwood Stadium in 1947, but lost in the 12th round. His pro record was 58-14-4, with 14 victories by knockout and he had numerous amateur victories, including the state Golden Gloves championship as a bantamweight.
