Dowdy coached basketball for 15 years at Central where his 157 victories rank fourth in city history. His fast-paced offensive coaching style carried the Indians to prominence. He twice led teams to the Class A semifinals in the state high school tournament, won two Saginaw Valley Conference championships and five city titles, including three in four years from 1961-64. Dowdy’s Indians were 18-2 in 1957-58 and 17-3 in 1963-64.
