His achievements at Southwestern may never be duplicated by a city high school football coach. During his seven seasons as coach, from 1972-78, his teams never lost a City Series game while building a 21-0 record against city foes. Southwestern was 56-8 overall during this period when it won five Valley crowns. Christiansen’s teams compiled back-to-back 9-0 seasons in 1976 and ’77, winning the Associated Press state championship in 1976.
