As Northern High’s first basketball coach, Barclay’s teams went on to win a record four State Class A championships. His teams also won nine city championships and six Saginaw Valley Conference titles. His 1939-40 state championship team was nicknamed “the Wonder Boys” and is considered one of the finest teams in Flint history.
