Larry Hackett was ahead of his time and dominated his era as a basketball player in Flint in the 1950s and ’60s.
Hackett was a team captain and leading scorer for Flint St. Matthews before going on to star at Flint Junior College — now Mott Community College — with two All- Conference seasons in 1951 and 1952. He earned the nickname “the dead man in the corner” for his ability to shoot from the baseline, far enough away from the basket that defenses were hesitant to venture out and guard him.
