In the mid-’70s, a group of fast-pitch softball players cut their teeth at a field called “The Hole” in Clio. The collection of 20-something guys changed only slightly over the next several years and nightly put on a show at the field in what was formally called McCormick Park.

They eventually became too dominant for the small-town Clio softball scene and headed south to Flint at Whaley Park, where they dominated the area and eventually the state as the Borden’s Drugs Men’s Fast-Pitch Softball Team.

Made up mostly of guys from Clio and a few from nearby Mt. Morris, the team settled on a roster for the 1980 and 1981 seasons and won state championships both years. That team is one of three new teams heading into the Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame later this year.
