A three-sport athlete at Flint Central, he was a three-year basketball starter at Michigan State and the Spartans most valuable player in 1951. Coached baseball at Buchanan and guided his team to the state Class B finals in 1955. He spent 32 years at Kalamazoo College where he coached the basketball team throughout his tenure, was the baseball coach for 22 years and spent 10 years as the college’s golf coach.
