Cossman was an energetic promoter of Flint sports during a 19-year career as a sports writer and sports editor of The Flint Journal. He was a member of the Flint Baseball Commission, Vice President of the Central League Baseball Writers Association and a member of both the Baseball and Football Writers Association of America.
