Tucker was a Class A All-State basketball player at Northwestern High. He gained All-Big Ten Conference honors at Minnesota after leading the Gophers to the 1982 championship. A first-round draft choice by the New York Knicks in 1982, he played 11 years in the NBA, completing his career as a member of the NBA champion Chicago Bulls in 1992. He still has the Flint single-game scoring record of 49 points.
