The 1940 graduate of Central High had an outstanding prep career earning three letters in baseball, two in football and two in basketball. He lettered in all three sports at Eastern Michigan University. In 1938, he won the outstanding player award at the American Legion baseball tournament. Harvey played minor league baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
